About Maritime Mosaic

Providing Local Artisans with Access to Grand Market Retail Space

Maritime Mosaic, located in the beautiful and iconic building once known as Dayle's Grand Market, is a hub space where local artisans from around the Maritime Provinces can display and sell their creations.

With over 120 vendors and adding more all the time, “It is our goal to make it easy for emerging artists and creative entrepreneurs to access retail space and be successful in their businesses.”

Maritime Mosaic offers over 3,000 square feet of space to a variety of local vendors, showcasing a huge variety of arts and crafts. There is truly something for everyone here.

Local Artisan looking for space? Maritime Mosaic is your place.

For a very nominal fee, owner Karen MacKinnon rents out small pockets of retail space to local artisans who manage their own inventories and stock their own shelves.

Meanwhile Karen manages the business side of things, paying overheads, staffing, helping customers, and giving everyone a chance who wants to be a part of Maritime Mosaic.

Our Story: The Expansion of Maritime Mosaic

When owner Karen MacKinnon moved her new business up the street to the iconic Amherst Dayle’s Grand Market building she was taking a big step forward to bringing vitality back to a building that many people felt might never be used as the incredible retail space that it was, ever again.

People have always travelled to Amherst to shop in this much-loved building, and now they can again. There is something for everyone’s tastes to be found at Maritime Mosaic.

This location was once the largest department store east of Montreal, and now it has been revitalized to support artisans and creative entrepreneurs, and to build the local economy in a new collective way.

We dropped in during a recent visit - from Ontario - and could easily have spent a couple of hours shopping and browsing and eating at the charming cafe. The layout, selection and craftsmanship all were top-notch, as was the warm greeting from the vendors. Definitely a place to visit.

Great selection of items from local crafter's and artisans as well as antiques and novelties all located in an historic building that used to be home of one of Canada's oldest dept store.

I grew up in this town and am now back as a visitor. What I can say is that every piece for sale is of the highest quality and not at all kitschy. The staff were great to deal with and super friendly. I don't get art or specialty items, but everywhere I looked, I loved what I saw. Wife and 14 year old daughter all picked up something.
